Genesis 3: 1-7
2 Corinthians 11:3
How would you define a lie?
How do you react when a politician lies?
How do you react when somebody lies to you?
How often do you think the average person tells a lie everyday?
How many lies do you think you’ve told in the last week?
Do you think your lies have been helpful?
In Genesis, chapter 3, the serpent persuades Adam and Eve that God’s word was not true, and that his motives were impure.
Adam and Eve believe the lie told by the serpent and eat from the forbidden tree.
Now if we all had to be honest, we also swallowed this lie about God.
We still fall for the Devil’s deceit.
We believe that God doesn’t know what is best for us, we think we can come up with a better pattern of behaviour than God.
We believe the lie that we will be happier if we sin, if we break God’s Commandments, if we decide what is right and what is wrong.
For we believe that God is the cosmic killjoy; his laws prevent us from happiness.
However, if we took an honest look at ourselves, and the world around us, we will see that this is not true.
In 2 Corinthians 11:3, the Apostle Paul uses Eve as an example to warn the Corinthians. He says: “But I am afraid that as the Serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ.”
We as Christians, need to give more thought to what God desires for us.
Surely he desires for his children that, which is good and pure and wholesome; that which is less destructive, and that builds healthy relationships ?
Yes, even in the midst of our struggles, our frustrations and our own brokenness.
Oh Lord, please help me to close my ears to the deceit of the devil and open my ears to hear your truth. Please renew my mind daily as I meditate and think of your word.
May I believe you want only the best for me.
PRAYERS for this WEEK:
Pray that we at CCB would seek always to hear and understand God’s word.
Pray that we would not fall for the lies of the evil one.
Pray that we would not be tempted away from preaching God’s word correctly and with passion.
Pray that we would want God’s Spirit to renew our minds as we sit under his word.
Pray that our hearts would believe that what God wants is the best for us.
Pray that our actions would show to others our passion for the teachings and ways of our Saviour.
